Codependent No More
Codependent No More by Melody Beattie is perhaps the most popular book on codependency out there, and for good reason. The book offers a powerful introduction to codependency, it’s symptoms, and a set of solutions. This is an absolute must-read for those interested in codependency.
Recovery from Co-Dependency
Recovery from Co-Dependency: It’s Never Too Late to Reclaim Your Childhood by Laurie Weiss and Jonathan B. Weiss is a wonderful book on codependency. Specifically addressed to adult children of alcoholics, this book helps us investigate how our childhood may impact our relationships today. Unlike many other books, Recovery from Co-Dependency doesn’t just drone on about the problem. It offers understanding, practices, and actual solutions for healing.
Breaking Free of the Codependency Trap
Breaking Free of the Codependency Trap by Janae B. Weinhold Ph.D. and Barry K. Weinhold Ph.D. is one of my personal favorite books on codependency. Rather than addressing the issue as a lifelong and progressive illness, the authors view codependency through the lens of trauma. Using their combined decades of experience working in the field, the authors investigate root causes of codependency and how we can alleviate the suffering caused.
Facing Codependence: What It Is, Where It Comes from, How It Sabotages Our Lives by Pia Mellody, Andrea Wells Miller, and J. Keith Miller is a powerful book offering a clear way to understand and work with codependency. By identifying thought and behavior patterns associated with codependency, this book helps us to see the behavior in everyday life. Furthermore, the authors help the reader address the root causes of codependency and how we can heal the pain.
The New Codependency
The New Codependency: Help and Guidance for Today’s Generation is Melody Beattie’s most recent book on codependency, and one of the best ones available. As a true master at understanding and investigating codependency, Melody Beattie offers this book as a contemporary response to codependency. Utilizing the recent decades of research and understanding, The New Codependency is a handbook for anyone dealing with codependency in their lives.
Love is a Choice
Love is a Choice: The Definitive Book on Letting Go of Unhealthy Relationships by Dr. Robert Hemfelt, Dr. Frank Minirth, and Dr. Paul Meier is a book on codependency from a Christian perspective. Utilizing a mix of Christianity and medical expertise, Love is a Choice offers a powerful option for those seeking a faith-based approach to working with a codependent relationship or behavior in their life.
The Language of Letting Go
The Language of Letting Go is our final book on the list, and another by Melody Beattie. This book is a collection of daily meditations that focus on issues surrounding codependency. We have found that this book is incredibly inspirational and useful in our lives. Read it in the morning for some thoughts, meditations, and inspiration for addressing and working with codependency in your life!
