- AFRICOVER
AfriCover develops a digital georeferenced data base on land cover
and baseline geographic data for the whole of Africa. Collaboration
with national and sub-regional institutions ensures an operational
approach and the sustainability of the initiative. Data from completed
countries are freely available and accessible on the WWW.
- GLCN
The Global Land Cover Network (GLCN) initiative (a follow-up to ARTEMIS)
has been jointly launched by FAO and UNEP. This global alliance for
standard multi-purpose land cover data production is based on
methodologies and software developed during the AfriCover project.
- GIS
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a computer based cartographic
database and a spatial analysis tool. It is a corporate multidisciplinary
database covering mostly environmental and socio-economic maps, such
as soil and water resources, agro-ecological zones, crop and livestock
production systems, land use/land-cover, climate, population density,
nutrition, infrastructure, hydrography, digital elevation models and
other topographic and base maps.
- TEMS
TEMS, Terrestrial Ecosystem Monitoring Sites, is an international
web-based directory of sites and networks that carry out long-term
terrestrial monitoring and research activities ON GLOBAL CHANGE
IMPACT. The database provides information on the "who, what and where"
that can be useful to both the scientific community and policy-makers.
Particular emphasis is placed on access, harmonization, standardization,
and quality of long-term terrestrial metadata and data.
- ARTEMIS
Satellite-based near-real-time monitoring information system serving
the environmental information requirements of global, regional and
national food security early warning systems and desert locust
monitoring and forecasting.
- GeoNetwork
Spatial information management capacity designed to harmonize and
improve access to FAO spatial data and information as well as
interoperability with other partners and stakeholders through
standardized metadata catalogues and web mapping services.
- FAOCLIM
FAOCLIM is the agroclimatic database of FAO. It contains monthly
climatic reference data for 28100 stations and for up to 14
observed and computed agroclimatic parameters. It includes both
long-term averages (1961-90) mostly used for planning and time
series for rainfall and temperatures used in risk assessments.
Several tools are based on FAOCLIM, in particular LocCLim that
is used for estimating climatic conditions for any location on
land. LocClim exists also in web version.
- AgroClim
AgroClim is a database of Agroclimatic documents held in SDRN.
The database contains about 10000 climatic and agroclimatic
monographs accessible through a detailed system of keywords.
It runs under CDS/ISIS, a menu-driven generalized Information
Storage and Retrieval system designed by UNESCO specifically
for the computerized management of structured non-numerical data
bases. The system is fully compatible with the main library of
FAO.
