The GLCN initiative was created and is supported by the following
partners:

- United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
- Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
GLCN Supporters
In addition to the above key partners, GLCN activities, programmes
and national and regional networks are supported by numerous governments,
institutions, organizations and individuals. Government support includes:
Government of the Czech Republic:
has supported the Asiacover regional project through funding and
technical support.
Government of Italy: originally supported the Africover initiative
and now funds the GLCN programme.
Government of Libya: has supported national mapping activities using
LCCS and other GLCN methodologies within its own territory.
Government of the Netherlands: has provided support for the initial
development of a number of GLCN national and regional networks, supporting
numerous regional training workshops. In addition it has supported other
capacity building and support activities including the development of manuals,
documents and training material in a number of languages.
Government of South Africa: through its Department of Land Affairs,
Chief Directorate of Surveys and Mapping, will act as a support centre for
the region, providing satellite imagery and technical support to its
neighbouring countries.
Government of the United States of America (USA): has offered support
and collaboration for the harmonization of mapping activities, especially in
Africa. The US Government supported the conference on land cover mapping and
change assessment, 21-23 September 2004, Florence, Italy. The Conference
endorsed the GLCN initiative and provided recommendations for its implementation.
The US Government is also considering funding the analysis of agricultural trends
for specific regions and supporting the development of ecological
databases for Africa.
